SLM-101 Object Manipulation – Cloning Objects

0:06 Welcome to this Application Explainer video, part of our SLM 101 topic range.

0:11 In this video we will cover the subject of cloning objects within.

0:15 SLMSLM provides various options when dealing with the cloning of new objects.

0:21 In this video, we’ll be concentrating on cloning objects using Edit Tools and cloning objects and associated children using Edit Tools.

0:29 We’ll also discuss the rules for cloning objects.

0:36 The first method of cloning we will look at is by using the Edit Tools drop down menu.

0:42 First, navigate to the parent of the object that you wish to be cloned.

0:49 Next, navigate to Edit Tools and add the object type.

0:57 Type in or.

0:58 Select the object that you wish to be cloned and select Clone selected object and click Save.

1:13 Upon saving, the new object will appear in the object tree with the original ID and an_C1 added indicating it is a clone of the previous object.

1:24 Once a cloned object is created, it can be clicked on to change the ID for the new ID intended.

1:40 Another method of cloning is cloning with an object and its descendants.

1:45 If you wanted to clone for example, an entire SIF, navigate to the parent where you wish the clone to be placed, click Edit Tools, add the object, enter the ID and select it, and then choose Clone selected Objects and associated children.

2:10 Click Save and then.

2:11 This will go to a background task where it will be processed.

2:16 When a small amount of time has elapsed, click Refresh and you will see the clone SIF under its parent with the entire structure.

2:29 All objects of that SIF have the original ID with an_C1 to make them unique.

2:35 One other method of cloning is by using the drag and drop in the object tree.

2:39 To clone the object, drag and drop the object to the parent where you wish the clone to be placed by holding down control and then dragging and dropping to the parent.

2:48 This will send it to a background task where it will be processed and once it is finished being processed press refresh.

2:58 The clone now appears in the object tree once again.

3:01 Click on it and change the ID to the new desired ID.
